Out of the Hat... - News from the Lady Principal

It is a pleasure for me to welcome the TWC community back to school and a special welcome to all the new girls and their parents.

We welcome these staff members to the Senior School:

New Staff: Jenny Garnett – Chaplain and Sam Scott – Sport Department and in Boarding: Gail Coffey and Slindile Zuma (Housemothers)

Senior School Interns: Larah Binedell, Lihle Manana and Xolile Mkhonza

Locums:  Frances Salisbury will be teaching Life Sciences while Michelle Bennett is on maternity leave, and Kay Threadingham will teach Mathematics while Mike Nicholson is recovering from a knee operation.

The Estate staff were very busy with the usual maintenance projects as well as upgrading different areas of the school and we thank Barry Moig, Theunis Ferreira and the Estate staff for all their hard work. The IT department was also kept busy with the installation of 55 new desk top computers and upgrading all computers to Windows 10 and Office 365.

A number of staff and their families completed the Otter Trail during the holiday, which they found challenging but rewarding.

The Grade 8 Orientation weekend, ‘The Next Chapter’, was held at the school before the start of the academic year. It provided an opportunity for parents and girls to meet each other and for the boarders to settle in before the year actually starts.

The Grade 12 girls and parents attended an academic meeting to outline the school’s expectations and the IEB requirements for 2018. This was followed by the Grade 12 Prayer Service, which set the tone for the year.

A reminder that the driveway and entrance to the school will be widened which will cause some inconvenience for a period of time once the project starts. The new seating area for the girls is in the process of being developed, and we are hoping the astro turf will be completed in early February.

I wish you all a happy and prosperous 2018.

Sue Tasker
Lady Principal
