Out of the Hat... - News from the Junior School Headmistress

WELCOME BACK TO SCHOOL
There was much laughter and excited shrieking on Wednesday as girls returned to school. We welcome 50 new pupils into the Junior School. 15 of these are Grade RRR girls who are embarking on their exciting schooling journey. It was the little siblings leaving their sisters at “big school” and parents, who shed tears on day one.

Girls are quickly settling into their daily routines of lessons and extra mural activities. I am impressed by how many girls, after their first day, are walking to the classrooms on their own.

NEW STAFF
We welcome the following new staff to the Junior School:
Jenny Garnett (Chaplain), Shirley Kempthorne (Head of Sport), Katherine McClelland (Music), Sasha Peens (HoD of Intermediate Phase), Tracey Pera (Library), Sam Scott (Sport), Carol Solomon (Music), Belinda Veenstra (Grade 3), Slindile Zuma (Junior Boarding Housemother).

INTERNS: Debbie Minnaar, Samantha Evans; Lisa Gerber and Thandeka Hlongwane

2018 THEME - GROWTH
Our theme this year in the Junior School is related to Growth. We are going to focus on growth mind sets, growing in understanding of self and others.

REMINDER:
JUNIOR SCHOOL PARENT/TEACHER MEETING – TUE 23 JAN – 18:30
SPEAKER: FLOSS MITCHELL
A reminder to Junior School Parents to please attend the parent/teacher meeting on Tuesday 23 January at 18h30. Floss Mitchell, a psychologist, will be our guest speaker. This is a wonderful opportunity to meet your daughter’s class teacher, and to hear her explain the new challenges and routines for the Grade, and to meet the other parents in the class. A cocktail party will follow in the atrium.

I wish you and your daughters a wonderful year in the Junior School.

Karen Gardner
Junior School Headmistress
