Out of the Hat... - News from the Lady Principal

Welcome back to the start of term 3 and a special welcome to families who are new to the school.

While many of us were relaxing during the holiday, there were a number of girls and staff involved in inter-provincial hockey, netball, squash and debating, as well as swimming, cycling, table tennis and equestrian. All the details will follow in a sports report.

Three girls and Mrs Bartman, accompanied by Mr Willows and his wife, joined families from St John’s and St Anne’s on a tour to Israel organised by TWC Adventure Sport. They had a wonderful experience and we look forward to their report back to the school.

Our congratulations to Mrs Royston on the birth of her daughter, Ella. Mrs Royston will be on maternity leave for the rest of the year and Miss Segal will be acting Head of Sport. We welcome Miss Bentley onto the staff as a locum sport administrator for the remainder of 2017.

With Sister Timm having left at the end of last term, Sister McCallum and Sister Taylor will share the day nursing duties, and we welcome Sister Duckworth who will be undertaking the evening duties.

Congratulations to our catering manager, Paula Heuff, who has been selected as a regional finalist in the Chef of the Year competition. This is a national competition and includes chefs from hotels, restaurants and catering companies.

Grade 10 Formal Ball Dance Rehearsal

It has been a busy start to the term. Grade 11s went to Nyala Pans on their leadership camp for three days, Sports Science girls have been involved in a battling ropes clinic, Grade 10s have had a dance lesson with Hilton College in preparation for their Formal Dance in August and Grade 9s enjoyed their Business of the Year Awards on Saturday. The Grade 12 girls, in their various committees, have organised a Variety Show which will take place on Thursday evening.

The extension of the Chapel is complete and we had our first service in there this morning. It is a wonderful space and the senior school girls can now fit in far more comfortably. A huge thank you to all the families who have made donations towards the pews. The new classroom below the Chapel is the Junior School Drama classroom, and I am sure they will enjoy their new space. The staffroom is nearly complete, and you will notice extended seating at the top field.

I am looking forward to a productive term and hope girls make the most of the opportunities provided.

Sue Tasker
Lady Principal
