Grade 3s - Anne of Green Gables

To round off the theme on Anne of Green Gables the Grade 3s held an Anne Picnic and the girls looked delightful dressed up as Anne.

Everyone brought either fruit, finger sandwiches or chocolate cake. There was vanilla ice cream to eat as in the story Anne gets her first taste of vanilla ice cream ever at the picnic.

The girls spread out their rugs under the trees at Eagle Ridge and enjoyed their delicious treats, trying to eat like little ladies with the proper etiquette of the time.

Then they held three legged races just as Anne and Diana did in the story. There was much laughter as they discovered it was harder than it looked!

After some more tea the girls got into groups and acted out little scenes from the book. Much pleasure was taken from being able to re-live some of their favourite moments and there were some very convincing Annes!

The 21st Century Classroom by Grade 5S

It is the 21st century and the Grade 5s decided that it is time for change. Today’s girls need to be equipped with the skills of critical thinking, creativity, collaboration and communication and Mrs Stewart decided that what better way to develop these skills than to present them with a real-life task.

Mrs Stewart asked her Grade 5 class to redesign their classroom to create a 21st century learning space that stimulates and promotes learning. After much discussion, research and collaboration a plan was created.

The girls divided into groups and split the tasks up, giving each girl a responsibility according to their interest and strengths.

The real buzz began as they created different areas and decided on the equipment needed in each area. The designated areas were:
* chill/reading zone,
* creative corner,
* collaborative zone and
* study zone.

A great deal of learning and fun was had by all the girls and they now get to enjoy the results of their hard work.

Early in the morning you can see the girls teaching each other various Maths skills on the table top whiteboard, writing motivational quotes on the various chalkboard surfaces or simply relaxing in the chill zone.
